Fuel Line Question

I will be ordering quite a few things from LMC Truck for my 1979 F150. I’m basically buying everything required for the fuel system.

I know for sure I need a new sending unit and the soft fuel lines all need replacing. But, it’s a nearly 40 year old truck so I figured I’d just spend the money now to replace various rubber bits while the tank is out. I’m gonna replace the tank as well because I don’t know it’s condition but I have to do it all at once since a family friend is letting us borrow their lift at a shop and I can’t drop the tank, inspect and decide after the fact if I need a new one (along with all the other parts).

So after all that, my question: OEM hard fuel lines or stainless steel? OEM lines are $80 and stainless is $120. I can hold off on these as far as I know but as I stated above about having the lift vs doing on my back at a later time. And, I don’t want to get under there and discover it needs to be done.

Further details: I’ve had this truck for 15 years and have no plans on getting rid of it ever. Even if Walker has her way and the government gets full control over our lives and all autonomy is gone. It was my first vehicle so no price could ever match sentimental value. I haven’t driven it in a while as it resides at my parents’ until I move into my new home soon and the previously mentioned fuel system refresh is done. Then, it'll be on to brakes and suspension.

I would get the best they have whatever you buy. You don’t want to end up like every 20th Ferrari .....

I went with nylon when I had to replace all the lines on my truck. Really nice stuff to work with, and it won’t rust.

I’d go with stainless, mainly so it doesn’t rust. If you can get nylon lines for it, those are pretty neat, but you also can’t just bend them to adjust/fit so it may be harder to find/install than a normal metal line.

Good choice on replacing the tank. I do not remember the last old Ford truck I've seen that didn't have a hole in the tank somewhere.

I am 90% sure your stock lines are regular steel.

Stainless is nice but much harder to work with/re-bend if necessary.

As far as I know there are no holes but that may change once its dropped.

Yeah. The longevity aspect is likely worth it.

For sure keep and eye around the fuel pump lock area. That’s where we’ve had holes in some of ours. It doesn't pose a problem until you have to do work in that specific area.
